Richard Clark Givens, 63, of Jacksonville, passed unexpectedly on August 11 following a motorcycle accident in North Carolina. Known as Rich, Dick or Rick to his family and friends, he was riding in the mountains with good friends - one of his most treasured pastimes. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 42 years, Susan, and his children Colleen (Heath Schopp) and Clark Givens (Lisa), his brother Bob Givens (Anne) and his sister Diane Givens, all of Jacksonville, and Pam Wagner (Rick) of Concord, NH. He also has many nieces and a nephew throughout the country. Dick was a graduate of Wolfson High School and the University of Florida. He was a well-respected structural engineer and President of Structural Engineers Group, which he considered his second family. He enjoyed his life's work of more than 40 years of design and worked on thousands of buildings. These included many high profile projects ranging from the original Jacksonville Landing to the new Weaver Tower at Baptist Medical Center. He was a well-respected structural engineer and President of Structural Engineers Group, which he considered his second family. He enjoyed his life's work of more than 40 years of design and worked on thousands of buildings. These included many high profile projects ranging from the original Jacksonville Landing to the new Weaver Tower at Baptist Medical Center. He also worked on multiple projects for the state universities with a focus on UNF and the University of Florida, a number of historic lighthouse renovations and many projects for AT&T/Bell South throughout the southeast. In addition to his motorcycle interest, he really enjoyed educating others with his extensive and varied knowledge and enjoyed helping out friends with both the design and construction of their home projects. He also took great joy in being a man of God to all he met. He was a long-time, active member of Christian Family Chapel, where he enjoyed playing a vital role as a member in the church family. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and was a loving husband and father. He loved God, his family, his friends and his country, and we have all gained the best guardian angel anyone could ever hope for. A celebration of life will be held at Christian Family Chapel, 10365 Old St. Augustine Rd, Jacksonville, FL, on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11:00 am with a reception following.
